abgeFRACKt: Roaring Whistles

Fri, Feb 6, 2026, 19:30
Nicholas Collon (Conductor), Anna Lapwood (Organ), Dresdner Philharmonie
The organ is an instrument that for many creates a sense of reverent silence in churches rather than enjoyable music. But in this concert, it shows how versatile and modern the organ can be! Poulenc was a French composer who liked to play with musical contrasts: sacred meets secular, serious meets playful. His concert begins almost like a meditation - dark and mysterious - and suddenly the music breaks into lively, almost dance-like rhythms. The other piece, just recently composed for the organ in the famous Royal Albert Hall in London, captivates the listeners. It is a journey through moods and sounds that showcases the organ at its most exciting. Lean back and let yourself be surprised - maybe today you will discover your new favorite instrument!

Hayato Sumino | Aurora Orchestra | Nicholas Collon

Tue, Apr 21, 2026, 20:00
Hayato Sumino (Piano), Aurora Orchestra (Ensemble), Nicholas Collon (Conductor)
Founded by conductor Nicholas Collon, the Aurora Orchestra has been delivering captivating listening experiences since its first concert in 2014. The orchestra performs even the most demanding classics, such as Ravel's "Boléro" and Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring", entirely from memory. This creates a more intense relationship with the music, which immediately transfers to the audience. Pianist and YouTube star Hayato Sumino takes on the solo part for Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue". The orchestra will present two legendary ballet compositions and Gershwin's sensational 1924 premiere, the vibrant "Rhapsody in Blue".

WDR Happy Hour – Rachmaninow

Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 19:00
WDR Sinfonieorchester (Ensemble), Nicholas Collon (Conductor), Marlis Schaum (Presentation), Marlis Schaum (WDR 2)
In 1995, 24-year-old Thomas Adès caused a stir with his opera "Powder her Face," a satirical portrayal of an extravagant upper-class lady. Adès's music blends avant-garde and ironic quotes, combining catchiness with imagination. Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Symphonic Dances," a farewell work, is a symphony disguised as a harmless title, reflecting moments of a rich composer's life.
